Lorenzo Petrantoni was born in Genoa, Italy in 1970, and studied graphic arts in Milan, in Art & Design Tecnica School.
He now lives in Milan and works as creative director in the advertising agency Armando Testa. He likes working with old fashioned images stolen from ancient French books (of 800's), and he tries to use the computer as less as possible; he loves doing practical work and that's the reason why he prefers overall the collage work.
STATUA I've finalized the work assembling the calligraphies of French famous writers of 800's, with black circles, as it were the final points of each masterpiece on a statue, in order to symbolise the absolute power. / SCUOLA The African student-body looks at me with the multiple expressions of the students. Words are fragments of everything they learned with their sacrifices. Decorations offer a relief that makes lighter the studying pain, creating an alternative to severity and study's sacrifices.
Lorenzo Petrantoni about his work. “I "steel" images from old books and ancient volumes and then I put them together following aesthetic ruels that have to do with my love for graphic design. This is how my art work comes to life, giving new meanings to images that would be otherwise buried between pages of old books.”
